ASIAN EYELID SURGERY

The shape of East Asian eyes is one of the most unique human beauties. It is well documented in master art pieces throughout history. It is important to understand that the patient does not wish to alter their ethnicity but rather enhance it. Asian eyelid surgery is the most challenging eyelid surgery both technically and intellectually. The surgery must be individualized to avoid a manufactured look. It also requires the highest level of cultural sensitivity.

The surgery involves designing the right shape of the eyes, the appropriate height for the fold, and correction of any associated ptosis.

HOW IS AN ASIAN EYELID SURGERY PERFORMED?

Asian eyelid surgery usually takes about 45 minutes to two hours to complete. This procedure is typically performed as an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia and or intravenous sedation. In some cases, nervous patients can opt for general anesthesia to ease their anxieties about undergoing surgery. Incisions will be made after careful measurement and taken. A natural crease will be constructed using techniques based on each patient’s individual anatomy and desires.

  • Fine lines and wrinkles on the décolletage
  • Mild to moderate sagging on the face and neck
  • Drooping eyebrows
  • An upset or tired eye appearance due to sagging brows

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY ASIAN EYELID SURGERY RECOVERY?

After Asian eyelid surgery, patients may be advised to apply lubricating drops or ointment and use cold compresses to aid in healing. Most patients return to work in a few days to a week but should avoid exercise and strenuous activities for at least two weeks. Stitches are usually removed after five to seven days. Most swelling and other side effects typically subside within two weeks, at which point patients can resume wearing contact lenses and makeup. It is recommended to decrease your screen time and wear dark sunglasses when outside for two weeks to protect the eyes.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY ASIAN EYELID SURGERY?

Although there may be swelling and bruising around the eyes after surgery, these side effects will subside on their own, and the eyelids will improve in appearance for up to a year. The scars from Asian eyelid surgery are well-concealed and usually fade with time until they are virtually undetectable. Although the eyelids are still subject to aging, Asian eyelid surgery produces beautifully natural and long-lasting results.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF AN ASIAN EYELID SURGERY?

  • Changes in sensation
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Injury to nerves at or near the surgical site
